– How do you perceive arthritis? What causes it?
“It is connected to resistance, to the tendency to exert force in order to make reality conform to a certain way – like saying a clear and definitive ‘no’ to something, trying to maintain control in a specific manner so that things turn out one way and not another.
“This inflammation is often – though not always – a response to a person’s tendency to hold on to a certain kind of control, to insist that things must be this way and not another. It carries the potential to create a freer flow than existed before – movement in consciousness as well as in the body.
“Not every inflammation can be completely healed; different people create different realities in their physical bodies, and we cannot say that it is always, absolutely possible for everyone to heal entirely on a physical level. However, the potential exists to create freer movement that influences both consciousness and the body. It is like saying ‘yes’ in a way that has never been said before. A ‘yes’ inwardly, and from there – when it is fitting and appropriate – a ‘yes’ outwardly.
“The ‘yes’ must begin inwardly; the release is internal, not external. It is the release of a person from their own self-imposed constraints, and from this space, when it is appropriate, they can say ‘yes’ in relationships and in various daily situations. It is a choice to say ‘yes’ and to let go of the idea that control exists, that it can be achieved, and that it should be achieved, for fear that otherwise, things will not go well or succeed”.
