Although many things in this area have already changed in our society, the ideal that one should manage life alone still remains. If I manage on my own, it’s a sign of success; if I need help, it’s a sign of a problem.
The absurdity is that our entire lives are based on cooperation. If you examine your life for a moment, you’ll realize there is nothing you can do alone – from getting water for drinking and bathing, through the groceries you buy, to the money you wish to earn.
The same applies to the emotional and psychological realm. Those who want to delve into the depth of wounded and suppressed emotions cannot do so alone. The deeper you go, the more you discover concentrated, intense emotions that feel real, even though they usually aren’t.
Richard Bach wrote in one of his books that ‘fear is an empty bubble disguised as hell’. To truly understand that fear is just an empty bubble, mere illusion, we must cross through emotional hell. To do this safely, we need supportive guidance, someone to remind us, even in the most difficult moment, that every emotion eventually comes to an end.
